24 note Repeating Pentatonic Legato Lick
Filed Under (Lead Guitar Ideas) by admin on 12-02-2010
Recently I sent an email about fast, repeating pentatonic licks
and how to take advantage of some cool economy picking and
legato techniques for maximum efficiency.
Here is the lick I was talking about tabbed out,
and also here is a second repeating
pentatonic lick…
In the tab here, I play each of these 2 patterns twice and string
them together for a new, 24 note repeating lick.
Try it… In the tabbed example here, I just play it once and
then play the A note again, but you can leave that last
note out and just repeat the 24 notes…
Try to get it as fast and clean and controlled as you can.

It’s a cool lick Claude. Maybe even better if it was heard in guitar tones. Thanks for all the good stuff you put out. Keep up the good work.

TKS, there are a lot of melodic possibilities in this.
OK MAN ? MEANING YOU CLAUDE
THAT WAS A GUITAR????????? C”MON MAN TELL THE TRUTH…..LOL….I CAN PLAY FAST BUT GEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ NO-WHERE NEAR THAT 32 LEGATO STUFF…THANX FOR DA MAIL “BRO”.OH HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND DUDE
WHOOPS I MEANT 24 LEGATO LICK…….
its just midi files @ the moment because i dont have a good setup now, for recording, lol… But I can play
all this stuff (thats how I come up with the licks and ideas) and I will post videos or audios soon…thx – Claude
Maybe you could record it slowly first for us weenies trying to follow the tab.
Then play it up to speed so we can go outside and smash our fingers…kidding.
Nice work Claude.
Thanx….
Don’t use TAB much. What is the first symbol below the staff, just before the H? And what is the next similar one, with the dashed line to the right?
Thanks for the tips Claude, but dude slow it down. It sounds like a video game and playing that fast does nothing for me. I want to feel each note. Give us the same lick slower and we can gradually speed it up as we learn it. Thanks!
How in the world do you count SIXTEENTH TRIPLETS????? cause I can do eighth triplets but I’ve almost never seen sixteenths.
After listening to it several times, I believe it must be jazz, isn’t it? My interests are in country music but anything’s possible, I suppose, with music.
Not sure that this is true:), but thanks for a post.
Kicker
I’m not really counting 16th note triplets per se when I am playing this.
Just basically counting a fast triplet beat , not concerned with fitting that
into a 4 count…
Just focus on the 1-2-3 , 1-2-3
rhythm of each repeating lick.
(123, 123,) (123, 123 ), (123 , 123) ,(123, 123) , or 4 groups of this little
6 note pattern of two triplets each.

It is great, shows me how very, very far I have to go. But is also encouraging, sort of.
Thanks.
That was interesting…
That would make a dandy lick in just about any uptempo bluegrass banjo instrumental or break. It fits into the three-finger forward roll perfectly. I think I might jusy try it out!
