Another Fast Lick

Filed Under (Guitar Secrets) by admin on 22-01-2010

Ok here’s another fast lick for you to try out. On this one, I want
to emphasize the picking – there’s very little picking going on actually.
It’s mostly hammer ons and pull offs, and especially hammering on
“from nowhere” onto a new string.

Try to only pick using the picking symbols shown here…Its mostly upstrokes,
starts with an upstrokes and a few downstrokes later. There is one slide
to the 9th fret G string, which really starts on the 7th fret (not notated).

By the way, if you don’t have my DVDs yet, what are you waiting for? Check out Killer Guitar Control Secrets.

Fun with 32nd notes

Filed Under (Guitar Secrets) by admin on 16-01-2010

Everyone wants to play some fast licks… If 16th notes
aren’t fast enough for you, how about 32nd notes ? :)

It helps to have a way to use fast notes in really musical way though,
instead of just mindless speed. Here’s an interesting lick I came up
with that features a few 32nd notes.

In Killer Guitar Control Secrets, I go
over rhythmic divisions (and more) in depth.

For now, check out this lick…The 32nd notes appear as 2 notes right
before the last note. The pulloff technique allows you to create the speed needed.

Making Magic from Simple Patterns

Filed Under (Guitar Secrets) by admin on 09-01-2010

Hey now… Sometimes rippin’ guitar licks sound great even though
its not the most crazy patterns or crazy tempos.

I’ve seen many a “guitar god” solo made up from basic pentatonic licks
in very ordinary fretboard positions. You can certainly make some wailing
sounds in the root position pentatonic pattern. The keys are smooth
bends and vibrato, a good sense of rhythm and control, and boom -
you got some cool licks going on.

In Killer Guitar Control Secrets, I go
over these concepts (and more) in depth.

Oh and it also helps to have
efficient picking technique if you want to play fast licks. Check out this lick and
specifically pay attention the downstroke and upstroke
patterns.

Multi-flavored lick

Now onto the lick:

This one combines a few different “flavors” – it starts off with an interesting semi flamenco-ish kind of
sound then goes into a bluesy/dorian sound and finishes off with a major scale sound.

Dig it…
